Police nabbed three men for duping Mumbai businessman of ₹40 lakh

The Dindoshi police arrested three people of a gang this week, for cheating a person by promising to sell him gold at a rate lower than the market rate. They had cheated the businessman of ₹40 lakh.

According to the Dindoshi police, around February 22, the gang took an angadia’s office on rent in Malad East. But before signing the agreement papers, they took the keys from the owner on the pretext of performing a pooja. However, the police said once they got the keys, they cheated businessman Suresh Putrajaya Jain, 47, of ₹40 lakh on the pretext of selling him 1 kg gold at a cheap rate, and fled.

The police said that one of the gang members posed as an agent and approached Jain’s agent telling him that his client had gold worth Rs 48 lakh which he wanted to sell for Rs 40 lakh as he was in need of urgent cash.

Jain agreed and was asked to meet the concerned people at the angadia office in Malad east and hand them Rs 40 lakh after which he would get his gold there. On February 24 Jain went to the angadia’s office with the code number of Rs 10 given to him by the agent. After it was matched to a number there, Jain gave the accused Rs 40 lakh. The accused told him that he would get a call after which he would get the gold.

But soon the accused excused themselves from the office and asked the complainant to continue to wait there. After half hour Jain realized that he had been cheated when the seller and his agent stopped answering his calls.
