No walk-in vaccinations in Mumbai, says Mayor Kishori Pednekar

A huge rush was witnessed outside government and civic-run vaccination centres across Mumbai.

Over the past four days, Mumbai has seen a slight dip in cases but seems like Mumbaikars are rushing to the centres owing to a shortage of vaccine doses. Many senior citizens are complaining about the hours-long wait they have to endure to get inoculated.

On Thursday, people were seen lining up at vaccination centres in Mumbai as stock of COVID-19 vaccine is running out.

A long queue was seen at some vaccination centres in the city including BKC jumbo Covid centre, NESCO centre and Nair Hospital as people flocked to the centre to get the jab.

While the vaccine is a shield against coronavirus, vaccine centres could turn out to be super-spreaders as no social distancing is followed, said Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar.

In a conversation with a publication, the Mayor said, “From today (April 29), people will have to seek an appointment to get vaccinated as walk-ins will not be permissible. At the beginning of the inoculation drive, the walk-in facility got a good response in the 60-plus and 45-plus groups but now it will not be allowed to avoid chaos at immunisation centres. People should leave the house only after receiving a text message from the concerned vaccination centre and ensuring the availability of the vaccine. This will also help in better coordination between the people and the administration.”
