In order to reduce the financial burden of COVID-19 vaccination on the state government, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has decided to donate ₹2 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

State NCP chief Jayant Patil announced the decision in a Twitter post.

“Extensive vaccination is essential in Maharashtra. In order to reduce the cost of vaccination and the financial burden on the state, everyone should come forward,” said Patil.

He informed that a cheque of ₹1 crore on behalf of NCP Welfare Trust was handed over to Chief Minister. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Water Resources Minister Jayant Patil and Baramati MP Supriya Sule were present on the occasion.

Patil added that another ₹1 crore will be donated with the contribution from one month’s salary of the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council members, as well as all the MPs in the state.

He appealed to those who can afford the cost of vaccines to reduce the financial burden on the state by helping the Chief Minister’s Assistance Fund.

On Thursday, the state Cabinet Minister and Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat has announced that he will be donating a year’s salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and Congress MLAs will also donate a month’s salary and the amount will be to the tune of ₹2 crore.

The Maharashtra government has announced free vaccination to people between the age of 18 to 44.
