Param Bir Singh shifted, Hemant Nagrale to be new Mumbai Police Commissioner

Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh has been removed from his post on Wednesday. The Maharashtra government has appointed Hemant Nagrale as the new Mumbai police commissioner, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh informed on Wednesday.

Nagrale also is the Additional Director General of Police (DGP) Mumbai, the position of Mumbai CP will be an additional charge.

Nagrale is a decorated IPS officer from 1987 batch Maharashtra Cadre and has received awards like the President’s Police Medal, Vishesh Seva Padak, and Antarik Suraksha Padak.

Meanwhile, Deshmukh also informed that Param Bir Singh has been transferred and posted as DG Home Guard.

The development comes days after Mumbai Police’s encounter specialist cop Sachin Vaze was arrested by the National Investigative Agency (NIA) in connection with a bomb scare at Mukesh Ambani’s house Antilia.

Vaze has been facing heat in the death case of Mansukh Hiran. Accused by Hiran’s wife of involvement in her husband’s suspicious death, Vaze was shunted out of the Mumbai crime branch last week and was later arrested by the investigative agency.
