A fire broke out at St. Anne’s school in Vasai West on Wednesday morning due to a short-circuit in the storeroom, said fire brigade officials. Two teachers were rescued from the third floor of the building by locals. No casualties were reported.
As per officials, the incident occurred around 11 am at St. Anne’s school on Vidhya Mandir road, Vasai (West). Two fire brigade vehicles rushed to the spot and managed to control the blaze within an hour.
“The fire broke out in the storeroom due to short-circuit. It was not a major fire. It is good the school was shut, otherwise, it would have been dangerous for students,” said a fire brigade official.
Speaking to a publication, a local resident Avinash Kuse said, “I was outside the school in the morning with my friend Pravin Nalavade and we saw smoke coming out from the third floor of the building. I alerted the fire brigade and immediately went inside. The watchman asked all school teachers to come outside but two were missing. We rushed to the third floor and found that the teachers locked themselves in the classroom as they were scared. We took them out of the building. Later, the fire brigade arrived at the spot and managed to control the blaze within an hour.”
