In a blow to Shiv Sena, 10 corporators from Matheran have joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The development comes less than 24 hours after six BJP corporators from Muktainagar Municipal Council joined the Shiv Sena.
They joined the former ally in presence of Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrakant Patil. And with this, the BJP has now secured the majority in the council.
According to Maharashtra Times, BJP MLA Prashant Thakur played a key role in getting the Sena corporators in BJP.
The corporators said that they joined the party as they were impressed with the functioning and leadership of Thakur.
Stating that the government will collapse while they are asleep, Chandrakant Patil said, “Everyone is respected in the BJP. People are given opportunities based on their talent. The corporators who have joined Matheran will get the right opportunity.”
