Mumbai: An empty tanker-laden truck accidentally landed on a track on the Central Railway line soon after the driver lost control of the vehicle due to tyre burst.
Fortunately, there was no movement of trains when the incident happened between Atgaon and Asangaon stations.
Shivaji Sutar, chief public relations officer, CR, said, “One gas tanker truck from the road entered on track between Atgaon- Asangaon section. Therefore, for safety reasons, up and down lines in the North East section had been suspended for traffic for a couple of hours from 7.40 pm.”
The vehicle was cleared from the track with the use of cranes and relief trains which were rushed to the site from Kalyan.
The last local that passed towards Kasara was at 6.50 pm while Pushpak Express had crossed in the CSMT direction at 7.10 pm.
The incident happened 40 km north of Kalyan and railway lines do not have fencing on either side of the track.
An inquiry will ascertain the exact cause of this incident.
