Maharashtra Governor Warmly Welcomes newly appointed CG of Singapore

  • Outgoing CG Gavin Chay makes a farewell call 

 Honourable Governor of Maharashtra Bhagatsingh Koshyari warmly welcomed the new Consul General of Singapore, His Excellency Cheong Ming Foong at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai yesterday, Monday 27th September, 2021. It was informed by an official communiqué from Raj Bhavan. New CG was accompanied by the outgoing Consul General Gavin Chay for a farewell meeting.

H.E. Cheong Ming Foong told the Governor that he will endeavor to step up economic cooperation between Singapore and India during his tenure and strengthen relationships among both the countries.  H.E. Gavin Chay, the outgoing Consul General briefed the Governor of his successful stint in India and his visits to various parts of India. Zacchaeus Lim, Vice Consul (Political) in the Singaporean Consulate was also present.

It may be noted that Indo-Singaporean relations are the bilateral relations between India and Singapore. Relations between both the countries have traditionally been strong and friendly, with the two nations enjoying extensive cultural and commercial relations.

Governor in conversation with Singapore Diplomats

Singapore and India successfully concluded the second review of the India-Singapore Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) on 1 June 2018 in the presence of India Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. The CECA agreement is signed in order to increase trade, investments and economic cooperation, and expanded bilateral cooperation on maritime security, training forces, and joint naval exercises, developing military technology and fighting terrorism.

 India and Singapore share long-standing cultural, commercial and strategic relations, with Singapore being a part of the “Greater India” cultural and commercial region. More than 500,000 people of Indian origin live in Singapore. (Source: Wikipedia).
