Indonesia’s Ramayana Ballet mesmerizes Indian audience

 Indonesian Embassy & CG Mumbai arranged virtual live show on their 75th Independent Day celebration

 Republic of Indonesia on the occasion of their 75th Independent Day arranged a mega virtual performance of “Prambanan Ramayana Ballet.” The performance was held on Saturday, 5th September 2020 evening on Zoom and YouTube platform. The live performance streamed live directly from the stage of “Prambanan Temple.” The Ramayana Ballet” was organized in association with the National Authority of Prambanan Hindu Temple in Yogyakarta. The occasion began after speeches of prominent dignitaries from both the countries.

The performers wore transparent masks during the performance which completely blended with their attire. It was a breathtaking performance with finely executed fire on stage with Prambanan as backdrop. Hanuman was very entertaining whereas Rama and Sita were slender and gent. It generated massive viewership from all over India. The audience was enthralled and appreciated the performance. The Show was presented in accordance with International rules,“New Normal” for pandemic. Ramayana Prambanan is a show that combines dance and drama without dialogue, based on the Ramayana story. The live performance streamed live directly from the stage in front of “Prambanan Temple”.  This is the biggest Hindu Temple in Indonesia attracting the largest number of tourists. The Ramayana Ballet was organized in association with the National Authority of Prambanan Hindu Temple in Yogyakarta.

His Excellency Agus Saptono, Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia, Mumbai, speaking to Mumbai Messenger Newspaper said “I hereby take this opportunity to thank everyone for their valuable presence to watch the live performance of Ramayana Ballet. We do hope that the Ramayana Ballet held today could not only maintain closer relations between our two friendly countries. It would also help to construct a long term mutual benefit for cultural relations. To conclude with, I have to state that we will continue to extend a hand of partnership on equal footing, with one thing in mind: the betterment of economic and cultural relationship between Indonesia and India for the benefit and prosperity of our two peoples.

CG Agus Saptono further added “Before Pandemic we had decided to bring the Ramayana Dancers to perform live in Mumbai to give a real feel of Ramayana. But due to the pandemic of Covid-19, we couldn’t bring the Ramayana Ballet. Nevertheless, luckily expansion of the Information of Technology makes it possible for us here to watch virtually a live performance of Ramayana Ballet. It was performed from the stage in front of “Prambanan Temple”, the biggest Hindu Temple in Indonesia”.

It is worth mentioning here that Ramayana Ballet of Indonesia is one of the popular shows globally. It is watched not only by Indians but tourists from all over the world, who visit Indonesia. So, it was a golden opportunity for people of India to watch the live show. It awakened spirituality to go back to ancient time of Ramayana from Indonesia.
