There were many more guests from the medical, cultural, educational and business sectors also attending the event.

In his remark H. E. Tang Guocai highlighted two historical coincidences, two contemporary inspirations and one correct choice. Tang said “Today we mark the 111th anniversary of the birth of Dr.Kotnis and the 110th anniversary of the Revolution of 1911.  These opened the prelude to China’s national independence and liberation, a milestone of the Great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression was a crucial period of China’s national liberation. Dr.Kotnis traveled thousands of miles from India to China; he devoted himself to the Great War against colonial aggression. Dr. Kotnis would always be remembered as an internationalist fighter walking on the right path of history, which will be remembered as long as civilizations exist.

H. E. Tang further pointed out “Dr. Kotnis’ spirit brought about two inspirations. Firstly, the global fight against colonial hangover and western hegemony is not over. Colonial hangovers still haunt to certain extent. However, the two great ancient civilizations have the wisdom to uproot the problems and stride forward together. Furthermore, the national rejuvenation of China and India has bright prospects and great potential”.

This year we mark 100th Anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) as well as the outset of 14th Five-Year Plan and the Long-Range Objectives through the Year 2035. India also launches its Vision 2025. For China, national reunification will be and can be realized. The Taiwan Question, left over by Japanese colonial aggression. It will be and can be solved in the pursuit of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

H. E. Tang stressed that Dr. Kotnis’ spirit and thousand-year friendly exchanges between China and India taught us deeper understanding and mutual trust. It is the only right way to develop the bilateral relationship. In China, Dr Kotnis met like-minded friends and found a life goal. Our two great civilizations have interacted just as two brothers for thousands of years, from a historic and extensive perspective. Dr Kotnis lived a short life, yet his spirit and legacy will live forever! For both China and India, no one can divide, break or disrupt our national rejuvenation

It may be noted that Dr. Dwarkanath Kotnis was born in 1910 in a middle-class family. Dr. Kotnis was one of five Indian physicians sent to China to provide medical assistance during World War II, where he breathed his last.

Dr. Kotnis was known by his Chinese name, Ke Dihua, in the East Asian country. There is a school named after him in Shijiazhuang, the capital of China’s Hebei province.
