His Excellency Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet, 51, an alumnus of the prestigious “Ecole Nationale d’administration”, took over as the Consul General of France in Bombay recently.

H.E. CG Séré-Charlet comes with two decades of vast experience in foreign relations and diplomacy, especially with India. He is passionate about India and its beauty, diversity, and resilience, he officially served as the Deputy Head of Mission in the Embassy of France in India between 2013 and 2015.

H.E. C.G. Séré-Charlet says “I’ve always loved India, her colours and her rich history. Soon after my marriage, my first choice was to come to India, so I came here for my honeymoon here, years ago! As a fan of history, it’s definitely an interesting country for me, but what attracts me the most to India is the values and interests that both countries have in common – be it secularism, cultural values, heritage, forward-thinking, and the desire to adopt a responsible position in global affairs”.

In his capacity as the Consul General of France in Bombay, with his entire team, and under the authority of the Ambassador of France in India, His Excellency Emmanuel Lenain, H.E. C.G. Séré-Charlet is in charge of the states of Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Maharashtra, territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli as well as Daman and Diu, in order to exercise the priorities of France in the western constituency of India. In his coveted new role, he would like to explore new partnerships and areas of cooperation, meet new people for forging long-term relations and work towards building strong blocks of friendship between France and India.

H.E. C.G. added, “I am here to sow the seeds of friendship and I am confident that it will reap rich rewards for the future of the Indo-French relations”.

H.E. Séré-Charlet is a family man with 4 children. His interests lie in rugby as well as theatre but what makes him stand apart is that this Frenchman is a fan of cricket too! He thinks Mumbai is probably one of the best spots to pick up a few lessons.

It may be noted that French Consulate is one of the oldest consulates in Bombay. It is considered to be a very coveted post for every incumbent. Prior to H.E. Séré-Charlet, Ms Sonia Barbry held the position of GG in Bombay.
