It may be noted that Indo-Brazilian relations are almost seven decades old. Brazil was the first Latin American nation to establish diplomatic relations with India in 1948. The Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro was the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations of India in 2020, which shows the closeness of the two countries.

Indo-Brazilian relations are based on a common global vision, shared democratic values, and a commitment to foster inclusive economic growth for the welfare of the people of both countries. The ties between both countries were elevated to a strategic partnership in 2006, opening a new phase in bilateral relations. Both the countries are members of BRICS, G-20, IBSA, and G4, and aspire for a permanent seat at the UN Security Council.
