A middle-aged soldier allegedly beheaded his wife and killed his young daughter in Bhunarheri of Patiala district on Monday evening.
The police claimed that the accused attacked on the head and neck of both the women with a sharp-edged weapon leaving them dead on the spot.
The police said that the accused identified as Gurmukh Singh of Budhlada division in Mansa district was presently working in the Indian Army and was posted in Jammu and Kashmir, however his designation was yet to be identified as the accused managed to escape from the spot.
According to the police, Gurmukh first hit both the women with a car while they were standing outside their house and then attacked them with a sharp-edged weapon at around 7.30PM. The police said that a Tea vendor standing nearby intervened and tried to save women but the accused attacked the tea vendor also and later managed to flee from the spot. The tea vendor identified as Manjit Singh has been hospitalized in government Rajindra hospital.
The deceased women have been identified as Harpreet Kaur, 40 and her daughter Navdeep Kaur, 18. The police said both had started living in Bhunarheri since past few weeks. The police revealed that deceased woman had two more children including a 15-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son who is mentally challenged.
“There was a dispute both domestic and property between Gurmukh and his wife Harpreet Kaur. The matter was in the court and both started living separately. Harpreet along with her daughter had started residing here from past few weeks. On Monday, the accused Gurmukh reached in a car and attacked both women with a sharp-edged weapon. Harpreet Kaur was beheaded. So far it has come to light that accused Gurmukh was a soldier in the Indian army who had rejoined army and was posted in Jammu and Kashmir. We are collecting more details about the accused who is on run but hunt to nab him is on”, said DSP Rural Patiala Sukhminder Singh Chauhan.
