Ban on liquor sale in Thane district

Amid the rising number of coronavirus cases and a night curfew imposed in the city, the Hotel and Restaurant Owners’ association has decided to protest against the restrictions and has announced a ban on the sale of liquor in the Thane district until their demands are fulfilled.

Complaining of incurring heavy losses due to the night curfew, hotel and restaurant owners have demanded that they be allowed to operate even after 8 pm.

Stating that businesses have already been hit due to the pandemic, the association members sought relief from the government and asked that excise fees be allowed to be paid in installments.

Until the demands are fulfilled by the government, the sale of liquor in Thane city, Dombivli, Kalyan, Navi Mumbai and other regions under the Thane district will not be allowed, the association averred.

A night curfew from 8 pm to 7 am has been imposed across the state until April 15, during which only shops selling essential items have been allowed to remain open.
