China is blessed with natural talents which are globally known. The Beijing Huadong Musical Instrument Co., Ltd is one such company which is globally recognised for manufacturing exclusive violins. The company is located in Donggaocun Town, which is reputed as “Violin Production Hub ”. It was founded in 1988 and has grown manifold. It has been personally initiated and guided by the world-class violin makers like Dai Hongxiang, Wang Chonggui and many other technical advisors.
We 68 journalists from 51 countries were invited to visit the company to witness their history and to have personal experience to understand basic nuances in the creation of the violin. We were welcomed at the Violin Culture Experience Hall and briefed us about making and its glorious past. The company has created a landmark in the violin market and has emerged as a professional leading manufacturer of violin families in northern China. With unswerving efforts in the past 33 years, apart from commanding a ready market across China. It is worth mentioning that 80% of violins are sold in more than 30 countries and its annual output of violins is up to 200,000 during the peak period. The Company blazes a promising development path in the context that “One out of every three violins in the world is produced in Donggaocun Town”, as the Company is a backbone enterprise earning foreign exchange through violin exports.

The company manufactures high-quality violins with real craftsmanship spiriT. It spreads violin culture by “bringing in” and “going global” in a two-pronged manner. It fulfils the social responsibility under a sense of Mission and vigorously obeys the instructions for Donggaocun Town. This town was set up during the field survey of Cai Qi, Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee. It was gradually transformed from a production-oriented enterprise to a production service-oriented enterprise. Huadong Music City was established in 2016 as a milestone. It promoted the Company to outreach from traditional violin production to music education and training, music culture exchange, performing arts and other industries to name a few. As of now, more than 100 non-profit music culture exchange events have been launched. In 2017, on the occasion of Sino-Western music cultural exchange events organized by the Company; Pinggu District People’s Government established a sister city relationship with Valencia, Spain.
After establishing a sister city relationship with Valencia, it turned out to be a turning point for the company and added a new chapter. They commenced inviting Spanish music professors to deliver “Virtuoso Classes” in Pinggu District on a regular basis.

It may be noted that the Violin Culture Experience Hall, built in 2009 and further upgraded in 2017, which is inscribed by Sheng Zhongguo, a prestigious Chinese violinist. With a total floor area of 800 square meters, it consists of four areas, namely video display area, cultural corridor, materials and tools exhibition area, and violin studio.
