Denmark’s High-Profile Deputy Speakers meet Governor of Maharashtra

To promote parliamentary cooperation, trade, business, cultural and academic collaboration, three Deputy Speakers of Denmark Parliament met Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais at Raj Bhavan Mumbai on March 8th, 2024. The speakers were Leif Lahn Jensen, Jeppe Soe and Karina Adsbol.

According to Deputy Speaker Leif Lahn Jensen, India and Denmark are celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations this year. He said the delegation is visiting India to promote parliamentary cooperation, trade, business, cultural and academic collaboration.

The Ambassador of Denmark in India Freddy Svane told the Governor that Denmark is facing a shortage of skilled manpower. He said there has been an agreement with India on mobility and migration and the Green Strategic Partnership between the two countries is growing stronger.

The Governor of Maharashtra, Ramesh Bais welcoming the Danish Parliamentary delegation to Maharashtra said Denmark has been a trusted partner of India in trade and Maersk and Larsen & Toubro (L & T) are household names in India. The Governor sought the cooperation of Denmark in skilling the youths of India. He said India will welcome assistance from Denmark in the Milk Revolution, Clean Energy, Education and Cultural Exchanges.

The Governor said in his capacity as Chancellor of 26 public universities, he would like to see greater cooperation between the universities in Denmark and those in Maharashtra. Senior officials of Denmark parliament and Vice Consul of Denmark in Mumbai Henry Karkada were also present, as per press note issued by PRO of Governor.

Leif Lahn Jensen: Is a Danish politician who is a member of the Folketing for the Social Democrats. He was elected into parliament at the 2007 Danish general election.

Jeppe Søe: Is a Danish politician and Member of the Folketing for West Jutland from the Moderates. Søe was elected to the Folketing in November 2022. He is his party’s spokesperson on values, ecclesiastical affairs, digitalisation, IT and labour markets.

Karina Adsbøl: Is a Danish politician who was a member of the Folketing for the Danish People’s Party until 2022, and since then for the Denmark Democrats. She was elected into parliament at the 2011 Danish general election. She is a Member of Parliament of Danish People’s Party, Denmark Democrats.

Denmark–India relations:

Denmark–India relations also referred to as Danish-Indian relations, are the bilateral relations between Denmark and India. Denmark has an embassy in New Delhi and India has an embassy in Copenhagen. About 15,595 NRIs reside in Denmark.
