Boao coastal town in China’s Hainan was a center of attraction across the globe. Here at Boao Forum for Asia (BFA)’s annual conference was held from March 28 to 31, 2023. The conference was inaugurated by Chinese Premier Li Qiang. This was the first entirely offline annual conference of BFA since the COVID-19 outbreak.

The annual conference was themed as “An Uncertain World: Solidarity and Cooperation for Development amid Challenges. The event evolved around four main topics, namely “Development and Inclusiveness,” “Efficiency and Security,” “Regional and Global,” and “The Present and the Future.”

Chinese Premier Li Qiang in his keynote speech at forum, called China an “anchor for world peace” while expressing optimism about a recovery in the world’s second-largest economy in a keynote speech at a forum. He emphasised “Chaos and conflicts must not happen in Asia, otherwise the future of Asia would be lost”.

In his speech Li emphasised that China’s economic recovery is picking up pace, data for this month would likely be better than the first two months of the year. He said that China would continue to pursue stability, expand domestic demand, open up the economy and safeguard the financial sector.

Li said that China is “stable and dedicated to development and would be a pillar for the world economy in a time of uncertainty. He pledged that China would be a strong force for prosperity in the world. He added that China would not take the path of colonization and plunder, and called on the world to pursue multilateralism.

At the event in Boao, Li urged nations to “firmly safeguard the hard-won peaceful environment. In this uncertain world, the certainty China offers is an anchor for world peace and development. He said, “This was the case in the past and will remain so in the future”. Li also said that China will work to expand its domestic market and improve the business environment. He reiterated a government pledge to firmly prevent financial systemic risks.

Leading luminaries, a host of international leaders attended this year’s Boao gathering which included Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The top personalities of the World included former UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, M D and Chairman of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

It is worth mentioning here that Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and IMF MD and Chairman Kristalina Georgieva in their speech categorically said that the economy of China and India are a force to reckon with.

In this coveted event, more than 1500 delegates from over 50 countries and regions and more than 1,100 journalists from over 170 media organizations from about 40 countries and regions including me, 25 journalists from Asia, Central and Eastern Europe attended the event, who were invited by CPICC.
