Mumbaikars have a reason to cheer as they can sample Dham food from Himachal Pradesh.Newly launched Novotel Hotel at Mumbai airport is organising The Himachali Dham Food Festival a unique food pop up for three days. This is probably the first time that Himachali Dham food has been presented in Mumbai. This pop up is ongoing till 14th July, 2023 at their prominent restaurant, Food Exchange. This is the first edition of the Home Chef pop-up series in collaboration with Chef Pin.
This festival aims to showcase the traditional Dham cuisine, which is an integral part of the region’s culture and festivities. Guests can discover the hidden flavours of Himachal at Food Exchange Mumbai. Well known celebrity chef Sherry Mehta who brings the essence of the hills to your plate. Chef Sherry is a known figure in culinary trade and she hails from Shimla. She began her culinary journey at the very tender age of 13 and never looked back thereafter.
Dham refers to temple food, which can vary from district to district as Himachal Pradesh is divided into 12 districts. Every district has its own dham food, that is vibrant and dynamic and they are known for using a lot of curd, amchoor, ghee and whole spices. Executive Chef Abhijit Bagwe of Novotel Mumbai Airport and his team of chefs along with Chef Sherry are on their toes to toss out classic delicacies.
Vishrut Gupta, General Manager Novotel Mumbai International Airport says “We believe in presenting something new for Mumbaikars. We are serving Himachali Dham food. It is worth mentioning that all the transitions we see today are a result of the awareness brought about by social media and other important sources. There has been an urge to try out new cuisines, new preparations, there has also been a steep rise in people looking out for traditional and authentic preparations from different regions. The people have become more health-conscious and look out for more healthier options in food, so we thought of doing something different than others”.
It is worth mentioning that Dham is a popular traditional feast prepared during marriages, local festivals, and special occasions of Himachal Pradesh. It’s a complete food not only according to Ayurveda but also nutritionally.
