China and Thailand Strengthen Ties and Commit to a Shared Future

To commemorate a decade of successful implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin visited China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping. The leaders aimed to deepen their Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and create a shared future between the two countries. They discussed implementing their Joint Action Plan and building mutual trust.

Thailand praised China’s development achievements and supported its “Second Centenary Goal.” China congratulated Thailand on its recent election and forming a government, expressing support for Thailand’s stability and development.

Both nations agreed to support each other’s core interests, respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity. They emphasized the importance of enhancing strategic communication between their leaders. The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) was a central topic of discussion, with plans to connect high-speed railways and enhance logistics and industrial chains.

Cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, infrastructure, and emerging industries was emphasized, along with support for trade agreements like the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area 3.0 Upgrade and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). Efforts to strengthen cultural exchanges, tourism, defense collaboration, and law enforcement, particularly in combating transnational crimes, were highlighted.

Multilateralism and international cooperation were encouraged, with Thailand appreciating China’s role in global peace and development. Both countries expressed their readiness to participate in initiatives such as the Global Development Initiative (GDI), Global Security Initiative (GSI), and Global Civilization Initiative (GCI).

They also reiterated their commitment to open and inclusive regionalism, focusing on deepening the China-ASEAN partnership, Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS), and Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC). Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin expressed gratitude for China’s hospitality and invited Chinese leaders to visit Thailand. During the visit, cooperation agreements were signed in various fields, strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
