In a significant milestone, Tourism Australia proudly announces that arrivals from India for the year-ended January 2024 have surpassed all previous records, reaching an impressive figure of 402,200 visitors. This remarkable achievement represents a staggering 101% of 2019 levels, marking the first time that Tourism Australia has surpassed the 400,000 arrivals milestone from India.
The month of January 2024 alone witnessed a surge in Indian visitors to Australia, with 26,200 arrivals recorded. This figure equates to an outstanding 106% of pre-pandemic levels observed in 2019. Notably, India has ascended the ranks to become the 5th largest inbound market for Tourism Australia in 2024, a significant leap from its position at number 7 in 2019.
Australia’s enduring appeal as a preferred destination for Indian tourists has never been more evident. This surge in visitor numbers can be attributed to a combination of targeted marketing initiatives, the seamless and expedited digitization of the visa application process, and the burgeoning air travel options connecting the two nations. Moreover, the sustained growth in arrivals year after year since 2019 underscores the efficacy of Tourism Australia’s collaborative efforts with airlines, key distribution partners, and over 5,000 Aussie Specialist Agents in India to bolster consideration and conversions.
Nishant Kashikar, Country Manager – India & Gulf for Tourism Australia, expresses his delight, stating, “The resurgence of Indian tourists to Australia is a testament to the resilience and rebound of international travel, particularly from one of our most valued markets. This serves as a clear indicator of the robust desire for travel and exploration among Indian travellers, who are drawn to Australia’s unique landscapes, diverse wildlife, and the vibrant multiculturalism of our cities.”
This significant development underscores the pivotal role of India as a cornerstone market in Australia’s tourism strategy for the foreseeable future. As Tourism Australia continues to innovate and collaborate, the prospect of further growth and prosperity in the Indian inbound tourism market remains bright.
