In a collective capture from April 11th to April 14th, 2024, the Airport Commissionerate of Mumbai Customs Zone-III made significant seizures totalling over 10.02 kilograms of gold, with a combined value of Rs. 6.03 crore. The seizures were made across 12 cases, revealing various ingenious methods of concealment.
Among the seizures, three foreign nationals traveling from Nairobi to Mumbai were intercepted, revealing 24 karat melted gold bars (44 in total) weighing 5733 grams ingeniously concealed within their hand baggage.
Additionally, six Indian nationals traveling from Dubai (3), Sharjah (2), and Abu Dhabi (1) were intercepted with 2670 grams of gold concealed in their rectum, on their bodies, and inside their undergarments.
In a particularly intriguing case, an Indian national traveling from Dammam was intercepted and subsequently hospitalized at JJ Hospital. The individual had ingested gold bars, leading to the recovery of a total of 14 gold bars (24 karat) weighing 233.250 grams.
In two other cases, Indian nationals traveling from Jeddah and Bangkok were found carrying 1379 grams of gold concealed in their rectum and on their bodies.
As a result of these seizures, three individuals have been arrested, underscoring the ongoing efforts of authorities to combat illegal trafficking of precious metals.
