Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayaka and India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal addressed the India-Sri Lanka Business Forum in New Delhi on 16 December 2024 during the President’s state visit.
President Disanayaka emphasized Sri Lanka’s readiness to open its market to India, with a focus on tourism, renewable energy (solar and wind), and the digital economy. He also highlighted the potential for investment in minerals and the ICT sector.
Minister Goyal reiterated India’s support for Sri Lanka’s growth, noting opportunities in tourism, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, ICT, and film industries. He also proposed collaboration in higher education, including establishing campuses in both countries.
The forum brought together 30 prominent industry leaders from across India, representing key sectors such as Tourism, Infrastructure, Energy, Pharmaceuticals, Manufacturing, Automobiles, Railways, and Finance. Their participation highlighted the forum’s role as a vital platform for collaboration, idea exchange, and fostering innovation. The diverse sector representation underscored the important role each industry plays in shaping India’s economic growth and future development.
