Belarus and India Weave Closer Textile Ties During Ministerial Visit

Belarus Textile minister Ms. Tatsiana Luhina, Chairwoman of the Belarusian State Concern for the Production and Sale of Light Industry Goods, paid an official visit to Mumbai, the commercial capital of India, to foster bilateral cooperation in the field of textiles and garments.

During her visit, Ms. Luhina participated in the prestigious National Garment Fair “Fabrics, Accessories & Beyond Show,” organized by the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, NESCO, Goregaon. Her participation at the fair offered an opportunity to engage directly with stakeholders from across the Indian textile and garment sector, and to showcase Belarus’s growing capabilities and interest in international collaboration in light industry.

Following her engagement at the exhibition, Ms. Luhina undertook a series of meetings and visits as part of a busy official itinerary. She visited the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Mumbai, where discussions centered on potential academic and industrial cooperation in the areas of textile design, research, and innovation. She also met with Jaikumar Rawal, Minister for Protocol and Marketing (Agriculture), Government of Maharashtra, where the dialogue focused on the intersection of agricultural and industrial textile applications.

Additionally, Ms. Luhina held a joint meeting with Sanjay Sawkare, Minister for Textiles, Maharashtra, and Hon. Ms. Ashnu Sinha, Principal Secretary (Textiles), Commissionerate of Textiles. The meeting explored avenues for bilateral collaboration in textile production, technology transfer, and joint ventures. She also met with representatives of various Indian textile companies to discuss business opportunities and potential partnerships between Indian and Belarusian enterprises in the sector.

In the evening, a press conference was held at the Consulate General of the Republic of Belarus in Mumbai. The event was attended by a number of prominent journalists and media representatives. H.E. Ms. Luhina was joined by H.E. Aliaksander Maskoŭ, Consul General of Belarus in Mumbai. The press interaction provided an overview of the outcomes of her visit and reaffirmed the commitment of Belarus to enhancing cooperation with India in the field of light industry, particularly textiles.

Minister Luhina’s visit marks a significant step in strengthening Belarus-India relations in the textile sector and opens new avenues for dialogue, trade, and cooperation between the two countries.
