India Post, Maharashtra Circle, Celebrates Maharashtra Day with Commemorative Events at GPO

The Department of Posts, Maharashtra Circle, marked Maharashtra Day on May 1, 2025, with a series of vibrant and culturally rich activities that honoured the state’s glorious legacy. The celebrations took place at the iconic General Post Office (GPO) in Mumbai and drew participation from postal officials, philatelists, art lovers, and members of the public.

As part of the commemorative events, a Special Cancellation and a Commemorative Postcard were released, paying tribute to Maharashtra’s rich history, diverse culture, and enduring heritage. The specially designed postcard captures the spirit of the state and serves as a philatelic souvenir for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Adding to the cultural fervour, an exhibition has been curated at the Mumbai GPO, showcasing the vibrant traditions, history, and artistic expressions of Maharashtra. The exhibition is open to the public from May 1 to May 3, 2025, offering a unique opportunity to explore the state’s legacy through stamps, artefacts, and visual displays.

Participants of the Dhai Akhar, Universal Postal Union (UPU) Letter Writing, and SPARSH competitions were also invited to attend the event, recognising their creative contributions and engaging them in the larger cultural dialogue.

The event was presided over by Shri Amitabh Singh, Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle. Renowned calligrapher and Padma Shri awardee Shri Achyut Palav graced the occasion as the guest of honour, adding artistic flair to the celebrations.

The Maharashtra Day celebration by the Department of Posts stood out as a harmonious blend of art, heritage, and philately, reaffirming the department’s commitment to preserving and promoting India’s cultural narrative.
