I was invited by Kunal Shanker, General Manager of Novotel Juhu Beach, to experience the newly reimagined Sampan 2.0, and I must say — I was thoroughly impressed. The iconic restaurant has reopened with a bold, contemporary twist, evolving from its storied legacy into a vibrant modern Pan-Asian destination. With a thoughtfully curated menu, elevated ambiance, and seamless service, Sampan 2.0 strikes the perfect balance between tradition and innovation, offering a dining experience that is both refined and memorable.
Bringing together the rich flavours of Korea, Japan, Thailand and China, Sampan 2.0 introduces an expansive new menu, enhanced service aesthetics, updated tableware, and redefined staff attire — all curated to elevate the dining journey.
Kunal Shanker, General Manager, Novotel Mumbai Juhu Beach said “Sampan has always been a part of Mumbai’s culinary memory, and with Sampan 2.0, we are honouring that legacy while redefining what modern Pan-Asian dining can look and feel like. Our aim was not just a menu refresh, but a sensory overhaul — rooted in authenticity and delivered with finesse.”
The menu reflects a strategic shift from Sampan’s original Chinese-centric offerings to a broader Pan-Asian canvas. Highlights include Korean Fire Chicken (Bul Dak), Spicy Kimchi Curries, Pork Belly in Yellow Bean Sauce, and Soft-Shell Crab with Thai Sweet Spice, alongside crowd favourites like Dragon Rolls, Siu Mai, and Massaman Curry. Vegetarian options are equally compelling with dishes such as Furikake Corn Ribs, Crispy Lotus Stem, Mapo Tofu, and a Sampan-style paneer.
Complementing the culinary offerings is a thoughtfully curated beverage programme that pays homage to Asia’s rich drinking traditions. The selection features iconic Asian beers — Asahi from Japan, Singha from Thailand, and Tsingtao from China — each a staple in its home country and celebrated globally for its distinctive flavour profile. These brews are more than just beverages; they represent the brewing heritage and cultural palate of their respective nations. Guests can also explore a wider Asian-inspired beverage list, including Soju, Sake, and a selection of artisanal cocktails crafted with regional botanicals, designed to pair seamlessly with the bold, diverse flavours on the menu.
Chef Avinash Kumar, Director of Culinary said, “This menu is a love letter to Asia,” “Each dish tells a story — of culture, craftsmanship and creativity. We’ve remained true to the soul of each cuisine, while adding our own unique flair.”
Sampan 2.0’s relaunch also signals a renewed commitment to guest experience, with refined plating, attentive hospitality, and an ambiance that blends the classic with the contemporary. The restaurant aims to cater to a diverse demographic — from families and professionals to discerning food lovers — cementing its place in Juhu’s dynamic dining scene.
My Review: Sampan 2.0 — A Must-Visit for Pan-Asian Food Lovers | 10/10
As someone who has travelled extensively and holds Asian cuisine close to heart, I found Sampan 2.0 to be an exceptional dining experience. Though I am vegetarian, the diverse menu offered plenty to savour — dishes like the Furikake Corn Ribs were an absolute delight. Highlights like the Korean Fire Chicken, as praised by a neighbouring guest at my table, were clearly crowd favourites and added to the vibrant dining energy. With its refreshed ambiance, attentive service, and iconic Asian beers like Asahi, Singha, and Tsingtao, Sampan 2.0 delivers a flavourful journey across Asia that’s not to be missed.
