In a major crackdown on smuggling activities, the Airport Commissionerate of Mumbai Customs Zone-III carried out two significant seizures on September 10, 2025, involving 24 Kt gold, foreign currency, and diamond-studded ornaments. One person was arrested in connection with the operations.
In the first case, Customs officials intercepted a passenger who had arrived in Mumbai from Dubai on Indigo Airlines flight no. 6E 1452. Upon examination, 24 Kt gold pieces weighing 0.689 kilograms were recovered, with an estimated market value of ₹66.43 lakh. The gold was ingeniously concealed inside the body cavity of the passenger in an attempt to evade detection. The individual was immediately taken into custody and placed under arrest under relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
In the second case, officials detected foreign currency equivalent to ₹35.92 lakh along with diamond-studded jewellery—specifically, one 24 Kt gold ring and two earrings—valued at ₹1.30 lakh. The items were found hidden inside a trolley bag carried by a passenger scheduled to fly from Mumbai to Bangkok on Indigo Airlines flight no. 6E 1059. The concealment was discovered during routine screening and baggage checks.
The Mumbai Customs Zone-III continues its strict vigilance and enforcement at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, aiming to curb smuggling and ensure compliance with Indian customs laws.
