FIEO and Ethiopian Consulate in Mumbai organized Seminar

Doing Business with Ethiopia is an initiative to bring two ountries more closer and enhance bsiness relationship

Federation of Indian Export Organization (FIEO) Western Region in collaboration with Ethiopian Consulate in Mumbai organized a seminar on “Doing Business with Ethiopia”. The seminar was held on March 12, 2020, at FIEO Conference Hall Mumbai. Large number of members turned out to attend the seminar. 

Khalid Khan, Regional Chairman, FIEO presented a welcome address. He made remark on India – Ethiopia trade and investment relationship. In his remark, Khalid stated that India is the 3rd important source of import trade for Ethiopia, contributing 10% of all Ethiopia’s import as well as maintained their reputation a being top 3rd foreign investors.

Khalid Further stated that Ethiopia is one of the safest and most stable countries in the region. It has registered an impressive economic growth and encouraged companies to enhance and deepen their trade and investment ties with Ethiopia.

His Excellency Demeke Atnafu Ambulo, Consul General of Ethiopia in Mumbai, presented the business and investment opportunities in Ethiopia for Indians to invest in a bigger way. He explained substantively on why to do business with Ethiopia. He emphasised on various topics and clarified his country’s vision about offering best of the opportunities and facilities to Indian investors.

H.E. Demeke Atnafu, extensively dwelt with factors such as political stability, growing economy, regional hub with access to wider market including to Ethiopian products to duty free. He also highlighted about quota free access to USA, European Union and African markets as well as competitive incentive packages. He also emphasized and underlined the bilateral agreements signed between the two countries.  Both, trade agreement and investment promotion and protection agreement aimed at cementing and deepening the trade and investment cooperation and partnerships between Ethiopia and India.

Consul General invited Indians to diversify their participation and engagement in the most promising manufacturing and agricultural sectors such as Agro and Food Processing, Leather and Leather Industries, Textile and Garment, Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals and Chemical Products, Paper and Paper Products Nonmetallic and Mineral Products, Building Materials, ICT, Mining and Energy Sectors.

His Excellency Demeke Atnafu Ambulo, Consul General of Ethiopia in Mumbai speaking exclusively to Mumbai Mesenger said “Ethiopia has become a global platform for investors from various part of the World and India is leading in various sectors. We have best of the opportunities made available for Indian Business industries. There is a phenomenal growth between the two countries in various segments. Both India and Ethiopia have long term diplomatic association and it is further expanded in positive way over couple of years. There are good numbers of enquiries emerging from Indian business communities to do a business in Ethiopia. We are optimistic that businesss amongst two countries would further expand”. 

CG Demeke further added “India’s relations with Ethiopia have been traditionally close and friendly. We are keener on expanding business relationship of both countries. Me and my team of consul are always available for trade enquires on telephone as well as in person.

Facts about India – Ethiopia relationships: The relationship between India and Ethiopia has grown manifolds over a period of time. Almost every month Ethiopian Consulate in Mumbai is in limelight for various good initiatives, in strengthening the ties among both countries. Most recently Rotary Club of Pune South and Lokmanya Hospital, Pune organised Endoscopic Surgery Camp at St. Paul’s hospital in Addis Ababa. This is the first camp being organized by Rotary on foreign land. During this medical camp many poor patients were benefitted. Ethiopian media gave extensive coverage for the efforts initiated by Indian doctors.  

The third edition of International Textiles Machinery Exhibition (ITME) was held in Millennium Hall in Addis Ababa recently. The event consisted of B2B Meetings and Investment Seminar. It was a successful event which helped many Indian investors to explore more possibilities in starting their business and Industries. 

It maybe noted that His Excellency Demeke Atnafu Ambulo, Consul General of Ethiopia in Mumbai awarded Annual Business Excellence Award by India Business Group (IBG) Chamber of Commerce.
