In a gesture reflecting India’s enduring commitment to community development and neighbourly cooperation, the Government of India has gifted a Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Plant and a Bus Shelter to residents of Komari village in the Pottuvil Division of Ampara district. The facilities were inaugurated on October 28, 2025, by the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, H.E. Santosh Jha.

The RO Water Plant, established with Indian grant assistance, will provide clean and safe drinking water to nearly 1,000 people in and around Komari. The new bus shelter, also a gift from the people of India, will offer comfort and convenience to local commuters, addressing a long-felt community need.

Hon. Member of Parliament Abdul Washith, Divisional Secretary of Pottuvil Mr. Ahamed Nazeel, and Vice Chairman of Pottuvil Pradesiya Sabha, along with other dignitaries, were present at the inaugural event.

The inauguration was part of the High Commissioner’s official visit to Sri Lanka’s Eastern Province from October 28 to 30, 2025, aimed at deepening India’s development partnership and people-to-people engagement in the region. During his visit, the High Commissioner is scheduled to extend assistance to schools in Kalmunai city and launch a financial aid scheme, supported by an Indian grant, for meritorious students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

He will also join Sri Lanka’s Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply, Hon. (Dr.) Susil Ranasinghe, to inaugurate the Mahatma Gandhi Model Village in Ampara — a symbol of India’s continued support for sustainable and inclusive community development in Sri Lanka.
