Air India has announced the resumption of its non-stop flights between Delhi and Shanghai (PVG) from February 1, 2026, marking the airline’s return to mainland China after nearly six years. Subject to regulatory approvals, the airline also plans to introduce non-stop services between Mumbai and Shanghai later in 2026.

With Shanghai becoming the 48th international destination served by the Air India group, the carrier continues to strengthen its position as India’s largest international airline by passenger volumes.

The Delhi–Shanghai service will operate four times a week using Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, offering 18 flat-bed seats in Business Class and 238 seats in Economy Class.

The reinstatement of flights follows recent diplomatic agreements between India and China to restore air connectivity suspended since early 2020. Air India had first launched its non-stop service to mainland China in October 2000.

Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India, described the route revival as an important step forward. He said the resumption of the Delhi–Shanghai service represents a bridge between two ancient civilisations and modern economic centres, enabling travellers to pursue opportunities in business, trade, healthcare, education and culture, supported by Air India’s warm hospitality.

The restored connection is expected to further enhance cooperation across sectors such as pharmaceuticals, technology, education and other emerging areas.
