Maharashtra to stop disconnecting power of defaulting consumers

Amid ongoing statewide protests over-inflated power bills, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Tuesday announced that the drive of disconnecting the power supply of those who failed to clear the dues will be stopped immediately.

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) started a recovery drive in January, as the pending dues are mounting with each passing day and it is becoming impossible for MSEDCL to run its day-to-day operations, pay debts to banks as well as employees’ salaries.

Today, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders including Ashish Shelar, Pravin Darekar, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil among others protested on the steps of Vidhan Sabha.

Meanwhile, the Leader of the Opposition Devendra Fadnavis raised the issue in the House and said that people are angry over inflated bills, while farmers have already suffered big losses due to the lockdown and heavy rainfall.
