India’s only surviving opera house, the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award–winning Royal Opera House, Mumbai, is set to host Reflet, a hybrid and sensorial choreographic performance by the internationally acclaimed Compagnie Xuan Le, on December 4 at 7:30 pm. Presented in collaboration with Institut Français, Alliance Française de Bombay and the Embassy of France in India, the production blends contemporary dance, hip-hop movement and roller skating into a single immersive narrative.
The performance is led by freestyle slalom champion and choreographer Xuan Le, whose seamless movement on inline skates creates a meditative visual rhythm. His choreography draws from origins, balance and the subtle memories carried within the body. He is joined by choreographer and dancer Shihya Peng, whose intimate duet with Xuan introduces emotional depth, exploring reflection, vulnerability and an encounter between the self and the other.
Founded in Paris in 2016, Compagnie Xuan Le is known for developing hybrid choreographic forms that combine contemporary dance, street styles, circus vocabulary, scenography and visual expression. Their productions have toured extensively across Europe and internationally, earning acclaim for innovation and cross-genre performance aesthetics.
The Mumbai showcase promises a multisensory experience for audiences seeking a fresh and boundary-pushing exploration of movement arts. Entry is ticket-based, and organisers expect a strong turnout from the city’s performing arts community.
About the Royal Opera House:
The Royal Opera House, Mumbai—India’s only remaining opera house—is a restored cultural landmark originally built in 1916. Once a premier venue for operas, theatre and films, it closed in the 1990s before undergoing an extensive restoration. Reopened in 2016, it now functions as a vibrant cultural hub for performances and events. In 2017, it received the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation.
