The decks are cleared for the much awaited prestigious Airport project of Uttar Pradesh government, Noida International Airport (NIAL). In a significant move Germany’s Zurich Airport International AG on Saturday signed a shareholder agreement with the Uttar Pradesh government’s entity NIAL in Lucknow for the development of the Noida International Airport, as per a statement issued by the UP government.
The agreement is signed by Arun Vir Singh, CEO, Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) and Christoph Schnellmann, CEO, Yamuna International Airport Pvt. Ltd (YIAPL) in the presence Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and senior officials of the UP government, the Zurich Airport International’s statement said.
It may be noted that YIAPL is a 100 percent subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG. The company has been incorporated to develop the Noida International Airport in Jewar, which is around 70 km from the main Delhi region. According to the agreement, NIAL will hold one golden share in YIAPL and the right to nominate two directors to the board.
“The directors to be added to the board will be Arun Vir Singh, CEO NIAL and Vishak Iyer, Director, Civil Aviation, Government of Uttar Pradesh,” it added.
“The signing of the shareholder agreement is the next step in the direction of progress for the state. The Noida International Airport will be the benchmark for a modern, world-class airport in India,” a statement quoted CM Adityanath as saying.
“It will accelerate the development of industrial infrastructure, boost tourism, promote exports, ease air traffic and lead to creation of more jobs in the state. It will generate multidimensional progress, leading to economic development in Uttar Pradesh,” he added.
Christoph Schnellmann, CEO, Yamuna International Airport Pvt. Ltd (YIAPL) in his Twitter message said “Delighted to sign the shareholder agreement with Zurich Airport International AG and Noida International Airport limited in the presence of the Hon’ble CM @myogiadityanath #NIAirport will become the benchmark for sustainable state-of-the-art airports in India”.
About Noida International Airport: Jewar Airport, officially known as Noida International Airport. It is a proposed international airport to be constructed near the town of Jewar in Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. Noida International Airport (NIAL) will be the implementing agency on behalf of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. The proposed plan is to build a two runway airport by 2022-23 and at a future date, to expand it into a 7,200 acre 6-runway airport. According to the proposed plan, the airport will handle 5 million passengers per annum (MPA) initially and up to 60 MPA to 120 MPA, after its expansion over a period of 30 years.
The project site is located 72 kilometres (45 mi) from Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) which currently serves the needs of the entire National Capital Region (NCR) and is quickly reaching its peak capacity. IGIA is located 36 km from Bulandshahr, 60 km from Noida & 70 km from Faridabad & Ghaziabad, about 48 km from Greater Noida, 65 km from Aligarh, 65 km from Gurgaon and 130 km from Agra. It will be connected to the Yamuna Expressway, allowing domestic and international tourists to reach Agra, Mathura and Vrindavan. It is proposed to be connected to Noida Metro via Greater Noida route; and the Delhi Metro via the Faridabad–Ballabhgarh–Palwal–Jewar route.
