WTC Mumbai Expands Global Partnerships in Blue Economy

By Sitaram Mewati

MVIRDC World Trade Center Mumbai has expanded its international engagement in the Blue Economy, water innovation and sustainable technologies through discussions and partnerships held during the Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum 2026 and the UNIDO–WTCA Blue Economy Global Call 2026 in Rome.

Priya Pansare, Senior Director – Trade, Investment & International Relations, represented WTC Mumbai at the engagements organised by UNIDO ITPO Italy. The forum brought together policymakers, international organisations, industry, academia and innovators to discuss water security, sustainable water management, technology and international cooperation.

During a panel discussion on “Advancing Blue Innovation: From UNIDO Projects to Global Solutions,” Pansare highlighted opportunities arising from India’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, particularly in ports, shipping, logistics, digitalisation and green technologies.

“The Blue Economy and water security are emerging as critical areas for sustainable economic growth and international cooperation. India has considerable scope to benefit from global innovations in water management, clean technologies and sustainable industrial solutions,” Pansare said.

The Rome engagement also included the UNIDO–WTCA Blue Economy Global Call 2026 Award Ceremony, which recognised six innovative solutions with potential to contribute to a sustainable and inclusive Blue Economy.

A key outcome was the exchange of letters between MVIRDC World Trade Center Mumbai and UNIDO ITPO Bahrain. Pansare represented WTC Mumbai, while Dr Hashim S. Hussein, Head of UNIDO ITPO Bahrain, represented the Bahrain office.

The exchange is expected to facilitate cooperation in entrepreneurship development, business matchmaking, investment promotion, technology collaboration and cross-border business opportunities.

Pansare said the engagement could help connect Indian businesses with international technologies, investment networks and market opportunities, while strengthening WTC Mumbai’s links with the wider UNIDO ITPO network.
