‘Looking Forward’,Ethiopian Envoy Demeke Atnafu Presents Letters Of Credence To India’s President

His Excellency Demeke Atnafu Ambulo Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia presented his credentials to the President of India H.E. Smt Droupadi Murmu during an official ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi recently.

During the presentation ceremony, Ambassador Demeke extended his gratitude to the President for accepting his letter of credentials and expressed his readiness to further strengthening the long-standing bilateral relations of the two countries in all sphere including broadening and enhancing collaboration and cooperation in political, economic, trade and investment, education, science and technology, culture and tourism, civil aviation, small and medium enterprise sectors. He also appreciated India’s effort in bringing back the Global south problems to G20 agenda.

  The Ambassador H.E. Demeke furthermore expressed his gratitude for the Government of India for standing by the people and Government of Ethiopia during its membership at the UN Security Council from 2020 – 2022, which he said vividly demonstrated the time tested relationship between the two countries. The Ambassador also apprised the current situation in Ethiopia underscoring Ethiopian Government efforts to the implementation of peace accord, embarking up on rehabilitation, reconstruction and reintegration program as its top priority.

The President wished the Ambassador success in his duties in strengthening bilateral relations in various fields, stressing his country’s readiness to provide all possible support to facilitate his duties.The President referred to the historical, heritage and civilizational bonds of the two countries. Describing the 75 years of diplomatic relationship between the two countries, The Honorable President reaffirmed to strengthen excellent cooperation existing between the two countries in various areas. The areas included such as people to people tie, trade and investment, science, technology and education, cultural and defence as well as development assistance. The Honorable President further underlined the use of Duty Free Tariff Preference scheme which is given to the least developed countries by the Government of India to expand and develop further business and investment ties between the two countries.

  About H.E. Demeke Atnafu Ambulo: Newly appointed Ethiopian Ambassador H.E. Demeke Atnafu is a career diplomat with vast experience in government and international diplomacy. He was Consulate General at Mumbai for three and half years including the crucial time of pandemic. Despite all odds, he was able to attract many business houses to do business in Ethiopia. He opened his door to meet up with industrial and business houses with him and his team at ease and convenience. He simplified the functioning of the consulate rules. He ensured that Ethiopia is promoted in a better way in all sectors. He left no stone unturned to put Ethiopia in top slot in India. He is the main brain behind establishing the Indo Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce in Mumbai.

  His first posting was in India as Consular Political and Commerce in 1998 and Consul General of Ethiopia in Mumbai in 2018. It is worth mentioning that during his previous tenure, he brought in new vigour in the functioning of the consulate by conducting more than 45 Business and investment promotion forums.
