China-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership Strengthens During President Joko Widodo’s Visit

President Joko Widodo’s state visit to China in October 2023 at the invitation of President Xi Jinping marked a milestone in China-Indonesia relations. They emphasized the significance of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, reflecting common interests, a shared future, and shared goals. The leaders pledged to implement the 2022-2026 Plan of Action, deepening their partnership. They both support each other’s long-term development goals, emphasizing high-quality development and mutual benefit. Their collaboration aims to contribute to global peace and prosperity.

They highlighted the importance of major developing countries working together to address global challenges, emphasizing cooperation and consensus. Both countries will continue to deepen trust and expand cooperation through various channels. The partnership is rooted in shared values and principles, promoting international relations based on mutual respect and win-win cooperation. They commended the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) for its positive impact on regional and global development and plan to enhance BRI cooperation.

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to sovereignty and territorial integrity. They support the peaceful resolution of the South China Sea issue. Cooperation covers various sectors, including trade, investment, sustainable development, health, environment, and maritime cooperation. They aim to strengthen global governance, enhancing the influence of emerging markets and developing countries.

Numerous cooperation agreements were signed, cementing their partnership’s future. Both leaders expressed gratitude for the visit’s warm hospitality and pledged to maintain frequent communications to strengthen their partnership further.

His Excellency Eddy Wardoyo, Consul General of Indonesia in Mumbai speaking to Mumbai Messenger said “We are working to connect various cities within Indonesia with a rapid rail network, such as the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway. President Joko Widodo also emphasized moving forward persistently together to promote economic development and realize people’s potential during his keynote address.”
