World Post Day, observed on October 9, honors the founding of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). This year, the UPU celebrates its 150th anniversary with the theme “150 Years of Enabling Communication and Empowering Peoples Across Nations.” In India, the Department of Posts marks National Postal Week from October 7 to 11, 2024, while India Post celebrates its 170 years of service.
Important Key Customer-Centric Initiatives are Door-to-Door Delivery. Passport Services, Applications accepted at 42 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSK). Aadhaar Services: Available at 1,287 post offices. Banking Services: Savings accounts and fixed deposits with competitive interest rates. Common Service Centres (CSC): 15,169 post offices function as CSCs.
Financial Inclusion and Insurance: Savings Schemes: Promoting various postal savings schemes, with Maharashtra boasting 2.76 crore live accounts, Insurance Products includes offering Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI), with significant policies procured in Maharashtra this year. Jansuraksha Schemes: Promoting government insurance schemes. Parcel and Logistics Services, Speedpost and Business Services: Fast delivery options for parcels. E-commerce Partnerships: Providing logistics solutions for businesses.
There are Digital Initiatives that include Postinfo App to track mail and parcels. Electronic Money Orders (eMO): Facilitate digital money transfers. Online Payments: Bill payment services through India Post Payment Bank and Dak Pay.
Rural Outreach and Philately: Rural Services: Accessible postal services in rural areas. Philately Activities: Encouraging stamp collecting with special exhibitions and customized stamps. Dak Niryat Kendras (DNKs): Supporting exports and MSMEs with 80 functional centers and more planned.
IT Modernization Project: The government has approved a Rs. 5,785 crore project to enhance technological capabilities for improved service delivery. successful Campaigns includes The “Har Ghar Tiranga 3.0” campaign sold 17.52 lakh national flags, generating ₹4.38 crore in revenue.
Transport and Delivery Innovations: Road Transport Network (RTN): Dedicated trucks for fast parcel delivery across 68 routes. Smart Parcel Delivery Kiosks: 10 kiosks in Mumbai for convenient parcel collection. Digital Postal Index Number (DIGIPIN): Simplifying addressing through geofencing.
Capacity Building: The “Dak Karmayogi” initiative has enrolled 42,483 employees in skill enhancement programs, contributing to Maharashtra Circle’s recognition for exemplary implementation of Mission Karmayogi.
