Greece, renowned for its stunning beaches, islands, and rich history and culture, is focusing on expanding its tourism reach in 2025. The country aims to attract new markets while strengthening its existing ones to boost revenue.
During a media briefing, Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni emphasized India as a key priority for market expansion. “The No. 1 market that we aim to open in 2025 is India,” said Kefalogianni, stressing the need for improved visa issuance processes to draw more Indian tourists. To support this initiative, a Greek delegation will attend a tourism exhibition in New Delhi in February. Furthermore, the Greek government plans to open consular services in Mumbai and Bangalore, complementing the embassy in Delhi.
India presents significant potential, with projections indicating it will become one of the world’s largest consumer markets by 2025. According to Mabrian data, Indian arrivals in Greece grew by 18 percent in 2023, making India one of the fastest-growing outbound tourism sources globally.
Kefalogianni aims to increase tourist arrivals from India by 15 percent in 2025, extend the tourist season, and reduce seasonality. Establishing direct flights between Greece and India is also seen as a crucial step to support this growth. Alongside India, Greece is focusing on strengthening ties with other key markets, including South Korea, Japan, China, and Saudi Arabia.
