Newly appointed Consul General of China in Mumbai, His Excellency Qin Jie, hosted a dinner meeting at his residence in Nariman Point to mark the 80th anniversary of China’s victory over Japan in World War II. The gathering brought together media representatives, diplomats, and eminent personalities to discuss bilateral relations and shared interests.
It may be noted that in Beijing, China, a grand military parade was organised at Tiananmen Square to mark the same occasion, where Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un were also present.
The Mumbai event was attended by distinguished guests including Dr. Sudheendra Kulkarni, OSD to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and noted socio-political activist; Dr. Rajan and Ms. Sumangala Borkar, members of Dr. Dwarkanath Kotnis’s family; Ajay Kamlakaran from RT Channel; Dr. Natasha Agarwal; Paresh Batra from The Global South Convergence Forum; Mewati Sitaram, Editor-in-Chief of Mumbai Messenger Newspaper; and journalists from the Free Press Journal and Mumbai Mirror.
During the evening, invitees shared their perspectives on India-China relations, emphasizing cultural exchange, economic cooperation, and people-to-people ties.
Speaking at the event, CG Qin Jie said, “I am happy to join as Consul General in Mumbai at a perfect time, following the recent SCO summit in Tianjin. The meetings between India and China’s leaders have opened a new chapter of positivity. As my top priority, I will focus on building a strong relationship between our two countries and will ensure the development of business, cultural, and people-to-people ties. The wife of Dr. Kotnis is from my province, Shanxi, in China, so Solapur is close to my heart, and I will work to strengthen coordination and collaboration. There is now a stronger emphasis on trade, technology collaboration, environmental initiatives, and cultural partnerships. I look forward to deepening our cooperation and fostering greater understanding between our peoples.”
