The Tourism Office of Spain hosted a captivating evening of cinema, culture, and cuisine at the National Museum of Indian Cinema (NMIC), Mumbai, to mark Spanish Cinema Day. The highlight of the event was the screening of Tasio (1984), an acclaimed Spanish film directed by Montxo Armendáriz, which drew cinema lovers, cultural enthusiasts, and travel aficionados alike.

The evening began with an insightful introduction that took the audience on a cinematic journey through the stunning landscapes and diverse regions of Spain depicted in Tasio. The film, screened in Spanish with English subtitles, offered a poignant portrayal of rural life and human resilience, resonating strongly with the Indian audience.

Following the screening, guests were treated to a delightful spread of authentic Spanish tapas and appetizers. The post-screening reception became a lively celebration of Spanish gastronomy and culture, providing an immersive experience that transported attendees to Spain’s vibrant culinary world.

Representatives from the Tourism Office of Spain expressed their delight at the enthusiastic response, noting that the event strengthened cultural ties between India and Spain through the shared love of cinema and travel.

Srinivas Iyer, a student from the London School of Economics, observed, “The celebration of Spanish Cinema Day at NMIC went beyond a cinematic screening; it served as an immersive exploration of Spain’s cultural and artistic identity. Tasio exemplified how cinema operates as a universal medium, fostering dialogue and understanding across diverse societies.”

The Celebrate Spanish Cinema Day event successfully showcased the depth of Spanish storytelling and artistry while offering Mumbai audiences a glimpse of Spain’s natural beauty, traditions, and hospitality — all within the heart of India’s film capital.
