NCPOR Marks Silver Jubilee with Commemorative Stamp on Antarctica Day in Goa

The National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), Sada, Goa, celebrated its silver jubilee on Antarctica Day (1 December 2025) by releasing a special commemorative stamp. The event was held at the Earth Auditorium of NCPOR in Sada, Goa.

  The ceremony was presided over by the Hon’ble Governor of Goa, Shri P.S. Ashok Gajapati Raju, who attended as the chief guest. Distinguished guests included Shri Amitabh Singh, Chief Postmaster General of Maharashtra–Goa Circle; Dr. Thamban Meloth, Director of NCPOR; Shri Shailendra Saini, Group Director of NCPOR; and Shri Ramesh Patil, Director of Postal Services, Goa Region.

  The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Thamban Meloth, who highlighted NCPOR’s remarkable 25-year journey in polar and ocean research. Following this, Shri Amitabh Singh congratulated NCPOR on reaching this milestone and expressed pride in the release of the commemorative stamp on Antarctica Day.

  The commemorative stamp was formally released jointly by the Governor and the Chief Postmaster General. Subsequently, an Antarctica-themed picture postcard and a First Day Cover based on NCPOR were also issued.

  In his address, Governor Shri Raju appreciated NCPOR’s contributions to polar research and expressed confidence that its scientists would continue to provide valuable insights for the nation in the future. He also emphasised the importance of continued collaboration between the Indian Postal Department and NCPOR.

  The ceremony concluded with the national anthem. A special philatelic counter was set up for the sale of new philatelic items and memorabilia related to NCPOR and Antarctica Day. These items are now available at the philatelic bureau of the Panaji Head Post Office.
