India Post commemorated the 25th anniversary of the iconic Hindi film Lagaan by releasing a Special Cover at a ceremony held in Mumbai on Tuesday.
The commemorative Special Cover was unveiled by Amitabh Singh, Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle, who presented the first album of the Special Cover to actor Aamir Khan, the lead star and producer of Lagaan.
The event celebrated the enduring legacy of the Oscar-nominated film, which has remained a landmark in Indian cinema since its release in 2001. Widely acclaimed for its storytelling, performances and music, Lagaan continues to be regarded as one of India’s most influential films on the global stage.

Among the distinguished guests present were filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, writer and director of Lagaan; Sabbas Joseph, Co-founder and Director of Wizcraft Group; Simran Kaur, Director, Postal Services (Headquarters), Maharashtra Circle; Rekha Q.A. Rizvi, Director, Mumbai GPO; noted philatelist Savita Jhingan; and several other dignitaries from the postal and cultural sectors.
The commemorative Special Cover pays tribute to Lagaan’s lasting cultural impact and recognises its significant contribution to Indian cinema over the past 25 years. The release is expected to become a prized collectible for philatelists, cinema enthusiasts and admirers of one of India’s most celebrated films.
