The Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB) organised a two-day familiarisation trip to Garabagh and East Zangezur on August 24 and 25, bringing together 50 representatives from Azerbaijan’s local tourism industry. The programme offered participants an opportunity to explore the tourism potential of the regions and gain first-hand knowledge of their attractions and hospitality offerings.
The familiarisation trip covered the cities of Khankendi, Shusha and Lachin, highlighting their rich cultural and historical heritage, natural landscapes and diverse tourism experiences. The initiative was designed to strengthen awareness among local tourism professionals about the growing range of tourism opportunities emerging across Garabagh and East Zangezur.
Built around an experience-based concept, the programme allowed participants to visit local tourism facilities and experience the destinations beyond conventional sightseeing. Participants were introduced to local hospitality traditions while exploring a variety of tourism experiences connected with the regions’ heritage, nature and cultural identity.
The trip also served as a platform for tourism industry representatives to better understand the infrastructure, attractions and services available to visitors. By experiencing the destinations directly, participants were able to identify potential opportunities for future cooperation and product development.
The ATB said such familiarisation initiatives form part of its broader efforts to encourage tourism professionals to discover different destinations across Azerbaijan and develop stronger cooperation within the domestic tourism sector.
Additional familiarisation trips for representatives of Azerbaijan’s local tourism industry are planned across the country. The initiative is expected to provide tourism professionals with greater exposure to Azerbaijan’s diverse destinations while supporting the development and promotion of new tourism experiences.
The programme underlines the growing focus on Garabagh and East Zangezur as emerging destinations, with their combination of historical heritage, natural attractions and cultural experiences offering opportunities for further tourism development.
