72 years of indo Swiss relations growing stronger

The ongoing pandemic situation has not deterred Swiss government to celebrate its National Day. Instead of public celebration, this year Independence Day would be celebrated virtually. The virtual celebrations will be hosted on the official website of Swiss Embassy. It is open to all without prior registration. Since this is not a live broadcast event, the videos would be available for viewing anytime during the day from 8 am onwards. His Excellency Dr. Andreas Baum, Ambassador of Switzerland to India and Bhutan has invited leading people of India including government officials, diplomats of other countries and media people to participate in virtual celebration. Othmar Hardegger, Consulate General of Switzerland in Mumbai has also invited leading people of Mumbai on behalf of the Ambassador to participate in the virtual event.

2020 is a special year and it is still not possible to hold large gatherings for the celebrations. Apart from the difficulty of the situation, more than ever before, Swiss Embassy in India felt the importance of social closeness, ties and solidarity. Fortunately, they have managed to keep in touch virtually as one big digital community throughout the lockdown. The Swiss National Day on Saturday, August 1, 2020. is an opportunity for everyone to come together virtually. With the aim of bringing together fellow Swiss and friends of Switzerland, the official Swiss diplomatic representations in India celebrate for the first time a digital version of the Swiss National Day and offer an interesting program online for the young and old alike. The program includes speeches of distinguished guests like the Swiss President and the Swiss Ambassador to India and Bhutan, contemporary dance performances, a puppet show for kids, DIY activities and more.

Furthermore, to commemorate the Swiss National Day, the official Swiss diplomatic representations in India stand with the people in this country suffering from the pandemic and as a gesture of solidarity extend their support to organizations helping people to cope with the effects of COVID-19.It may be noted that Swiss National Day is celebrated with much fanfare every year in India and abroad.
