Thane Police warns against instant online loan apps

The Thane Police on Tuesday warned citizens against various instant loan apps available on Google Play Store and urged them to be cautious while signing up for them.

In an advisory issued by the Thane Police department, officials informed that in recent times, several apps have popped up in the app stores, which claim to provide loans to the users in a fast and hassle-free manner.

Through these apps, users can avail a loan of Rs 2000 to even Rs 60,000. However, proper information about repaying the debt is usually not clearly mentioned in these apps.

Not just that, but as soon as users sign in, these apps also gain access to their phone galleries and contacts, which can then be misused.

“Days after the loan amount gets deposited into the user’s bank account, the app starts sending continuous prompts to return the money. And if failed to do so, these apps misuse the information gained from the user’s phone to harass and defame them over social media and phone calls,” the advisory read.

“This leads to immense mental stress and trauma to the user which only misleads them further. Thus, citizens must be careful while trusting such apps and carrying out monetary transactions over the internet,” it added.
