Students from IHM Mumbai and Bhubaneshwar shared their cultural importance
Institute of Hotel Management and Applied Nutrition (IHMCTAN Mumbai) in collaboration with
Regional India Tourism office organized an Odisha cultural programme followed with lunch on
Tuesday 28 th , January 2020 in the college auditorium at their premises. This event was organized
in accordance to the instruction of Ministry of Tourism under Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat.
The celebration event had cultural programme which consisted of art and dance form Odisha state
followed by an Odisha Theme Lunch. The students from IHM Bhubaneshwar performed many
Odisha dances which was applauded by all presents. Many officials from regional India Tourism
office and other dignitaries attended the event. The Odisha theme lunch had classic dishes from
Odisha that included Soup, starters, main course and desserts. There were ample choices of
dishes for both, vegetarian and non-vegetarian.
Odisha and Maharashtra are paired under the Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat scheme, as per the
directives of Ministry of Tourism Government of India’s guidelines. Under this programme, both
IHM Mumbai and IHM Bhubaneshwar are connected with each other for exchange programme.
Under this, various cultural and educational activities will take place periodically.
A team of 10 students and 2 faculty members from IHM Bhubaneshwar are in Mumbai under the
exchange programme. The students and faculty from institute have arrived in Mumbai on 27 th and
will be here until 31 st January 2020. In anticipation of this meeting of minds belonging to different
cultures and traditions with the objective of learning more about each other. IHM Mumbai is geared
up to provide a comfortable and enjoyable experience for its guests while in Mumbai.
During this visit in Mumbai, faculty and students of IHM Bhubaneshwar have lined up with busy
schedule and hectic activities. On the first day, 27 th January 2020, they had an interaction with the
students of the institute. The interactive session included culture and language exchange of
Maharashtra, its influences and finding common grounds between the two great states. It was
followed by the pre-preparation for the Odisha Theme Lunch and cultural programme organized on
the second day, 28 th January 2020.
In coordination with the Regional India Tourism office various excursions in and around the city is
organized for next three days. The students and faculty will be visiting the various places like the
Govardhan Ecovillage, the Elephanta Caves and a tour of the city showcasing the important
monuments of cultural, social and religious importance.
Arun Kumar Singh – Principal IHM Mumbai speaking to Mumbai Messenger said “We at IHM
Mumbai strictly follows the directives of Ministry of Tourism, which are meant to be beneficial to
students to shape up their future. We ensured that students from IHM Bhubaneshwar should have
good time in Mumbai and understand Maharashtrian culture. I am sure, they will understand
Maharashtra’s culture and return with good memories to cherish lifelong. Similarly, students and
faculty from IHM Mumbai would also have similar experience in Odisha”.
He added “The students of both colleges took active parts in creating theme lunch and cultural
programme and theme lunch a mega success. The faculty team of our college took keen initiative
to make them understand basic nuances. The efforts of team turned out to be a superb and
everyone appreciated it”.
Objective of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat: Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat is dream initiative of our
Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The objective of this programme is to celebrate the Unity in
Diversity of our Nation and to maintain and strengthen the fabric of traditionally existing emotional
bonds between the people of our Country. To promote the spirit of national integration through a
deep and structured engagement between all Indian States and Union Territories through a year-
long planned engagement between states. To Showcase the rich heritage and culture, customs
and traditions of either State for enabling people to understand and appreciate the diversity that is
India, thus fostering a sense of common identity. To establish long-term engagements and to
create an environment which promotes learning between States by sharing best practices and
experiences.
