Holiday Inn Hotel Mumbai hosted the timeless tradition of cake mixing ceremony this Sunday, 7th December 2020. An annual affair, the ceremony this year was a merry event, with live music and varieties of Christmas bakes. Hotel guests, special invitees, employees of the hotel and management team participated in the event. The cake mixing ceremony was followed with wine and brunch for all the invitees.

It was a sudden decision of management to hold traditional rituals to overcome the shadow of pandemic. So this was a beginning to welcome the recent festival in a merrier mood.  It may be noted that the cake mixing ceremony marks the beginning of the festive season, where dry fruits are soaked in a combination of liquor, so they’re ready in time to bake the Christmas Plum Cakes.

Suresh Thampi, Executive Chef of Holiday Inn Mumbai, along with his team and associates prepared an assortment of fruits. These included cashews, almonds, figs, apricots, raisins, black current and many more, with a variety of spices and a selection of rum, whiskey and cognac.

The mixture will be left to soak till just before Christmas, when the sealed containers will be finally opened for the baking of delicious Christmas cakes. The special guests donned in their red aprons, gloves and Christmas hats rolled up their sleeves to blend up the dry fruits, wine and other ingredients for a tasty Christmas cake.

Sharad Upadhyay GM cheering up festival mood

Sharad Upadhyay, General Manager of the Holiday Inn Mumbai said “We at Holiday Inn hotels follow the traditional rituals of Christmas cake mixing ceremony globally. Due to the pandemic, this year’s cake mixing ceremony was delayed. We are optimistic that this festivity would bring in new happiness for everyone”.
