- Seeks India’s cooperation in providing Covid vaccine
His Excellency Archil Dzuliashvili The Ambassador of Georgia to India called on Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai on Friday 8th January, 2021.
The Georgian Ambassador, while discussing with Maharashtra Governor, sought cooperation of India in providing the Corona vaccine to his country. The Ambassador said “Georgia has more than 5000 cases of CoronaVirus Disease. Like many other countries, Georgia is expecting India to make available the Covid vaccine to his country that would help our people”.
The Ambassador stated that Georgia is a small yet vibrant country with ancient civilization. The Ambassador said “Georgia is keen to enhance business and trade cooperation with India, especially in the fields of Ports, Clean energy and culture. Many Indian companies exist and are already functional. There are a large number of Indian students who are pursuing medical studies in Georgia.
The Ambassador further added “Due to its scenic locations and beautiful sites, Georgia has become a favourite destination with Bollywood film makers. There are many new films being shot at its different locations”.
Maharashtra Governor B S Koshiyari, while welcoming the Georgian Ambassador H.E. Archil Dzuliashvili said there is a vast scope for enhancing relations in Ports, manufacturing and culture.
H.E. Satinder Singh Ahuja, The Honorary Consul of Georgia in Mumbai was also present during the meet of The Georgian Ambassador at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai.
INDO GEORGIAN RELATIONS: Indo Georgian relations date back to ancient times. India was among the first countries to officially recognize Georgia, doing so on 26 December 1991. Diplomatic relations were established 28 September 1992. Georgian Foreign Minister Irakli Menagarishvili visited New Delhi in May 2000. This was the first diplomatic visit between the two countries since Georgia’s independence. Menagarishvili held bilateral discussions with former Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh on 11 May, 2000.
India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru visited Tbilisi in 1955, during his tour of the Soviet Union, and met with Georgian Indologist and Sanskrit scholar Aka Morchiladze. Indian PM Indira Gandhi visited the city during her tour of the Soviet Union in 1976. Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the capacity of Foreign Minister visited Georgia in June 1978. (Source: Wikipedia)
