Bird flu: BMC & Maha Govt. on the verge of advising restaurants not sell chicken dishes, 80k birds to be cull today in Parbhani

Maharashtra Government and BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have come on high alert amid the scare of bird flu. A High level meeting of State government and BMC officials taking place at Mantralaya. It is learnt from highly placed sources that the public safety government will issue advisory not to sell chicken in hotels and restaurants.

A senior official from the health department of Mantralaya on the condition of anonymity said that “They will form monitoring committees in livestock markets to prevent bird flu. We will form monitoring committees in all areas of Mumbai and every district of Maharashtra and will set up monitoring committees in livestock markets too”.

A senior official from BMC said that “We are going to instruct ward public health inspectors to visit restaurants selling chicken and request them not to sell it until the problem of bird flu is over”.

As the bird flu cases were detected across ten states in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said poultry farms, zoos, water bodies will have to be constantly monitored to contain the disease.He also asked all states to remain on alert to control the spread of the disease.

Bird flu has been confirmed in Kerala, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, and Maharashtra.

“Poultry farms, zoos, water bodies have to be constantly monitored to control the spread of bird flu,” said Prime Minister Modi today while interacting with the chief ministers of all the states ahead of the first phase of the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination programme.

A General Manager of a leading luxury hotel from Mumbai said “After pandemic, restaurant and banquet business picking up slowly and gradually. But this new problem has suddenly cropped up which would certainly affect the food business. But, we are not going to take any risk on our guest’s health. We will strictly adhere to government guidelines and follow their instructions”.
