Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was speaking at the Shauryanjali Programme – a tribute to the Bengali revolutionaries – at National Library in Kolkata, said that efforts were taken so that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s contribution to the freedom struggle was forgotten.
Speaking at the gathering, Shah said that Netaji’s courage, patriotism and selfless service to the nation will inspire the future generation.
He added, “Netaji, a brilliant student, had cracked ICS but dedicated himself to the freedom struggle of the country, driving home the point that nation was of prime importance to him.”
Shah emphasized how Bose was popular as he became President of the Congress twice and had even defeated the candidate of Mahatma Gandhi.
He also inaugurated an exhibition ‘Biplabi Bangla’ on the life of freedom fighters from Bengal and flagged off a cycle rally.
The innovative cycle rally has been arranged to pay respects to Bengal’s freedom fighters. The cyclists have been divided into three teams and named after three freedom fighters, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Rash Behari Bose and Khudiram Bose. They will travel around 900 km across Bengal, spreading the message about the freedom struggle and freedom fighters of the state.
