Known for starring in several notable films in her career, Pooja Bhatt is set to foray into the digital world with Netflix’s much-talked-about show Bombay Begums, which is set to premiere on 8th March.
Talking about her long break from acting, Bhatt told a publication, “I had kind of buried that part of myself, and I had put the actor in me into hibernation.”
She goes on to add, “I was busy producing, directing and trying to make films. I must say, making movies gave me a lot of satisfaction. I mean direction is not something that I ever aspired to do, I just went ahead and did it because very often you do not find the right person to fill those shoes. Someone once told me that looking for a perfect director is like looking for a perfect man to marry, they don’t exist.”
The actress-turned-filmmaker admits that she loves producing films. “At 25 when I produced Tamanna (1997), then Dushman (1998) and Zakhm (1998), it gave me a sense of self-worth that was beyond merely being an actor. While I was privileged to have gotten some extremely varied roles from Daddy (1989) to Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin (1991) to Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee (1993) and even Border (1997) for that matter. I felt that time that I was in, there was only that much one could do.”
She adds, “I did not have the aspirations to be arm candy and just be in a commercial film because of the fact that there are two superstars in it. My question always was, what am I doing in it?” she concludes.
